Back in 1999 — my senior year of high school, I came to the conclusion that my dream of becoming a comic book artist was probably not too realistic. I then shifted my thinking toward photography. I was involved in sports pretty much year-round and was basically obsessed with flipping through the latest Sports Illustrated magazine, so I decided to focus on the idea of being a sports photographer.
I got in touch with my local newspaper — at the time (The Ironton Tribune) — and they were very willing to help me learn the ropes. Long-time Tribune shooter Kent Sanborn talked me in to upgrading my gear to a Nikon F100 and took me under his wing, showed me which buttons to push and all that good stuff.
After freelancing for the paper for several months, and learning along the way, I was hired as the only full-time staffer there. My experience there provided several opportunities from photographing feature news assignments, breaking news and high school sports to covering Cincinnati Bengals, Cincinnati Reds, Ohio State Buckeyes and Marshall Thundering Herd home games.
Following my time at the Tribune, I went on to start my own business, work as a staff photographer at the Herald-Dispatch and freelance for several regional newspapers as well as The Associated Press and various other photo / wire services.
Most recently, I have (along with my fiancée Erica) opened studio in Gassaway, West Virginia (right in the middle of the state for those of you who are unfamiliar). We specialize in advanced senior portraiture and athlete portraits. Please browse our site for more information and portfolios and drop us a line if you have any questions.
